Getting Started

Apply Online: Fill out the volunteer interest form. Tell us a bit about yourself, your skills, and availability.
Introductory Call: Schedule an intro call with our Community Engagement team.
Background Check: All volunteers must undergo a background check regardless of in person or virtual engagements. We invite people from all backgrounds to apply to become a volunteer, especially those with lived experience.
Orientation: Attend a virtual orientation to learn more about TLM programs, protocol, and your day of volunteering.
Volunteer: Begin your volunteering engagement and become part of a movement that is paving the road to success.

Flexible scheduling
Our on-site visits take place Monday through Thursday, when our classrooms are open and our students are ready to engage. Remote volunteer opportunities offer even more flexibility and can be scheduled outside of those hours. However your week is shaped, we’ve built options to make sure a busy schedule is never a reason to sit on the sidelines.
Full onboarding and staff support
For many of our volunteers, this is their first time working with justice-impacted individuals or stepping inside a correctional facility. We take that seriously. Our team makes sure you feel informed, prepared, and confident, with every question answered.

Remote and on-site options
TLM operates in 7 states across 22 facilities, and we welcome volunteers to show up however works best for them. Those who are able to visit in person will find it to be a deeply meaningful experience, and for those who can not, our remote opportunities make it just as easy to engage, contribute, and connect.
